Description
Coventry, 1831. Thousands of silk ribbon weavers are close to starving, and the arrival of the town’s first steam engine threatens to destroy what little work remains. Even so, no one expects the violent uprising that erupts one grey November day—a moment that will change lives forever.
Young ribbon weaver Tom Burbury is swept into the chaos and, in a split-second decision, intervenes. By morning, he is under arrest—accused of leading the violence.
Tom’s neatly woven life starts to unravel. Torn from his young wife and child, his fate rests on a justice system stacked against him, powerful men with agendas of their own, and a government hellbent on making an example of someone. Yet as hope fades and doors begin to close, a determined community rallies around Tom in a desperate race to save one of their own.
Closely based on a true story, Unwoven is a gripping historical drama of injustice, courage and the extraordinary power of ordinary people who refuse to abandon one of their own.
